Kidney-related disorders encompass a variety of conditions that affect the kidneys' ability to filter blood and maintain fluid and electrolyte balance. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition where the kidneys gradually lose function over time, often due to diabetes or high blood pressure, leading to symptoms like swelling, fatigue, and changes in urination. Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs suddenly, often due to severe dehydration, infection, or toxic exposure, resulting in a rapid decline in kidney function and potentially life-threatening complications. Kidney stones are hard deposits of minerals and salts that form in the kidneys, causing severe pain, blood in urine, and potential blockages. Glomerulonephritis involves inflammation of the glomeruli, the filtering units of the kidneys, and can lead to symptoms such as blood in urine, high blood pressure, and swelling. Managing kidney disorders typically involves addressing the underlying causes, controlling symptoms, and, in advanced cases, may require dialysis or kidney transplantation to replace lost kidney function.
